How the structure works
Aviva Investors announced on 26 October a tokenised share class for its Sterling Liquidity Fund, which it described as its largest fund with roughly £22 billion under management. The share class uses a digital-twin model: holdings are represented on the XRP Ledger while the fund’s existing off-chain structure and assets remain in place. Aviva said the Ireland-domiciled UCITS money-market fund keeps the same investment objective, risk profile, liquidity characteristics and regulatory protections as the conventional fund. The product is available to eligible investors with digital wallets.
A second currency goes on-chain
The launch follows a tokenised share class for Aviva’s US Dollar Liquidity Fund in July. Aviva said £50 million was invested in the new sterling class and that the two tokenised offerings together held more than £86 million. Komainu provides institutional digital-asset custody support, Licuido provides tokenisation infrastructure, and the fund’s assets are held by BNY. Token representation does not remove investment, operational or eligibility risks, and access remains subject to the fund’s documents and applicable jurisdiction.
What it means for merchants
Corporate treasurers assessing tokenised money-market funds should separate the fund’s underlying credit and liquidity risk from the added wallet, custody, blockchain and access-control risks.
