Pricing beyond traditional market hours

Chainlink announced on 29 October that Chainlink 24/7 is live, extending market-data coverage for tokenised equities, commodities and other real-world assets through weekends and holidays. During regular and extended sessions, the service draws on its existing market data; when traditional exchanges are closed, it uses quotes from multiple perpetual-futures venues to create an off-hours reference. Chainlink notes that this is not a live quote from a closed underlying exchange.

Collateral and settlement use cases

Aave is the launch partner and plans to use the feeds to value tokenised real-world-asset collateral in its institutional Horizon market. Chainlink says continuous references can support derivatives, lending liquidations and short-duration prediction markets without applications freezing prices at Friday’s close or building their own switching logic. The model also introduces basis and market-structure questions: an off-hours derivative-derived reference can diverge from the next cash-market opening, and automated liquidations may amplify that difference. Product availability does not eliminate oracle, venue, liquidity or smart-contract risk.

Editorial analysis

What it means for merchants

Treasury and digital-asset teams using tokenised collateral should document which price source applies in every session, set conservative off-hours risk limits and test liquidation, dispute and reconciliation behaviour around market reopenings.
