Payments network volume expands
Circle reported on 4 November that Circle Payments Network reached $41.3 billion in annualised transaction volume during the third quarter. The company also said USDC on-chain transaction volume totalled $13.9 trillion for the quarter, up 49% year over year. Its update points to distribution through Samsung Wallet, Visa Direct stablecoin prefunding, enterprise workflows and financial-institution payment infrastructure. These figures are company-reported operating metrics rather than independently audited measures of merchant adoption.
Acquisition and blockchain plans carry conditions
Circle said its planned acquisition of B2B cross-border platform Tazapay is expected to close in 2027, subject to regulatory approvals. It also highlighted the September launch of Arc public mainnet with more than 100 institutional and ecosystem builders and native USDC integration. The filing says Arc’s roadmap includes proof of stake, privacy and scalability, so parts of the network model remain developmental rather than finished capabilities.
What it means for merchants
Merchants evaluating USDC should separate network scale from usable service coverage. Confirm which provider handles conversion, refunds, sanctions screening and local payout, and model the full cost against existing rails. A reported increase in transaction volume does not remove counterparty, smart-contract or redemption risk.
