Stablecoins convert into a dollar balance
OnePay announced on 30 October that selected US customers can fund OnePay Checking by sending USDC from an external wallet or exchange. The initial service supports 12 blockchains, including Base, Ethereum, Solana and Tempo. Incoming tokens are converted into US dollars rather than held as a separate stablecoin balance, and OnePay says funds will usually appear within moments, subject to network and compliance checks.
Bridge handles addresses, checks and conversion
The service uses Bridge, Stripe’s stablecoin orchestration platform, to create deposit addresses, conduct required checks and convert USDC into dollars before OnePay credits the customer’s checking balance. OnePay is not charging a conversion service fee at launch, although blockchain network fees may apply. Its disclosure also states that stablecoins are not deposits or government-insured, transfers may be irreversible and the converted dollar amount can be lower than the amount sent. Availability is currently limited rather than a general rollout.
What it means for merchants
Platforms paying contractors or gig workers in stablecoins should verify supported chains, address controls, screening delays, conversion rates and error-recovery procedures before directing users to this route. A wrong-network transfer or compliance hold can undermine the promised speed, so reconciliation and user warnings remain essential.
