Cards and spend policy come together
Paymentology announced on 4 November that it is providing issuer-processing technology for Paystashio, a corporate-spend platform developed by South African technology company Byte Orbit. The service lets small and medium-sized businesses issue physical and virtual employee cards, set individual spending limits and monitor transactions in real time. Paymentology’s platform applies authorisation and configured controls at the point of purchase.
Reconciliation is designed into the workflow
Paystashio also supports digital receipt capture and uses AI to categorise transactions and match supporting information. Integrations with Xero, Sage and QuickBooks are described as forthcoming, so businesses should distinguish current functions from the announced roadmap. The initial market is South African SMEs, with Byte Orbit indicating longer-term ambitions for more financial capabilities and geographic expansion. The companies did not publish adoption or performance figures.
What it means for merchants
SMEs comparing spend-management tools should test whether limits are enforced before authorisation, how exceptions are approved and whether receipt matching exports cleanly into their accounting system. Planned integrations should not be treated as live until verified, and finance teams should retain a manual reconciliation path during rollout.
