Invite-only phase ends for eligible customers
Remitly said on 4 November that its Global Card is becoming generally available to eligible US customers after a phased invite-only rollout. Cardholders can send money from their balance to another eligible Global Card user, including through a text-based flow, and can request money from another cardholder. A request link can guide a non-user through signup before completing the transfer.
Domestic and cross-border functions converge
The company is combining US person-to-person transfers with international remittances, spending, direct deposit, ATM access and the ability to hold or move fiat currency or USDC. Remitly says its international network reaches more than 175 countries, while some credit and membership benefits remain limited to eligible customers. The release describes consumer availability rather than a new merchant-acquiring service, and actual features, pricing and qualification may differ by customer.
What it means for merchants
Merchants serving migrant and internationally connected customers should expect more payment providers to combine domestic accounts, cards and cross-border money movement. The rollout may influence customer wallet preference, but businesses should not assume Global Card balances create a new acceptance method without confirming ordinary card-network and settlement terms.
